YouTube shorts are now available in 100 countries globally

After one limited release in India at the end of last year and a US Beta in early 2021, YouTube is expanding the availability of Shorts, its competitor TikTok, to 100 countries. When the company first introduced the format, anyone could see a Short. However, only those in about two dozen countries can access the tools that YouTube created for filming and editing Shorts. With today’s announcement, the company is making those tools widely available, which means you are likely to see more and more clips appearing on the platform.

Hugging short videos from YouTube comes just like TikTok itself becomes a bit more like YouTube. In early July, the company, subsequent months of testing, gave all its users the ability to record clips up to long three minutes. Removing its 60-second limit, TikTok said its goal was to give creators more flexibility, especially for those doing cooking and beauty lessons.
